Two-factor sign-in
With two-factor sign-in on, logging in to Mabel asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app after your password. Someone who learns your password still can’t get in without your device.
Codes come from an app on your phone or computer, such as 1Password, Google Authenticator or Authy. Nothing is sent by text message or email when you log in.
Who needs it
- Owners and Admins of an account with at least one site have to turn it on. You can skip it for 7 days from when you’re first asked. After that, Mabel takes you to the setup page until it’s on.
- Editors are asked when they log in, and can choose Not now. It’s never required for them.
Turn it on
- Open Settings and, under Two-factor sign-in, choose Set up.
- Add Mabel to your authenticator app by scanning the QR code. If you can’t scan it, copy the key shown under it into the app.
- Enter the 6-digit code the app shows, then choose Turn on two-factor.
- Save your recovery codes (see below), then choose I’ve saved them.
Mabel emails you when two-factor sign-in is turned on or off.
In 1Password
Open your Mabel login in 1Password and choose Edit. Add a One-Time Password field, then use its QR code button to scan the code on your screen. 1Password then fills in the code when you log in.
Recovery codes
When you turn two-factor on, Mabel shows you 10 recovery codes, once. Each one logs you in once in place of a code from the app, if you lose your device. Copy or download them and keep them somewhere other than the authenticator app. In 1Password, a note on your Mabel login works.
To make new codes, open Settings > Two-factor sign-in, enter your password and choose Make new codes. This replaces all the old ones.
Logging in
After your email and password, enter the code your app shows for Mabel. If you lost your device, enter a recovery code in the same box.
If you ticked Keep me logged in, that browser stays logged in without asking for a code until you log out.
After 5 wrong codes, you have to enter your password again. Resetting your password doesn’t skip the code: you log in with the new password, then enter a code.
Turn it off
Open Settings > Two-factor sign-in, enter your password and a code from your app (or a recovery code), then choose Turn off two-factor. If you’re an Owner or Admin, it’s required, so Mabel takes you straight back to set it up again. That’s also how you move it to a new device.
